Lord Sonny the Unifier counts in 2019

To celebrate the start of 2019, we’ve counted in the top 10 albums that have influenced the sound on our upcoming album “FINAL NOTICE!”

Iggy Pop & James Williamson: Kill City

For the mellow tunes I told Carmine to think of “I Got Nothing”. Pound hard no matter what! Williamson wrote some of the greatest rock riffs ever with his albums with Iggy. One of the greatest rock tragedies is that he quit playing for 30 years (!) until Iggy asked him to replace the Stooges guitarist, Ron Ashton, when he died and Iggy got the Stooges back on tour.

The Clash: Sandanista!

That album’s got everything plain and simple! Punks freaking out! Doing it their way. Spending all their money recording a triple album. Hell yeah, ain’t no way money’s gonna be doing anything better for ya.

Pink Floyd: Atom Heart Mother

The title track is equal parts freaky psychedelia and heavy. Listen to this with headphones and pick up a paint brush for a good time.

Bob Dylan : Desire

The story song of “Black Diamond Bay” is mind-blowing on so many levels.

“As the island slowly sank the loser finally broke the bank in the gambling room”

Small vibrantly told vignettes about suicide, victory, rebuffed love. etc. all on an Island that’s soon to be obliterated by a volcano. The narrator, 7 and ½ minutes later is revealed to be watching it all go down from LA via the TV news but he turns it off with nonchalance saying I wasn’t going to go there anyway….So badass! I love this Dylan Album. In the end, Dylan’s the greatest songwriter of the 20th century. The shit he did in 1965 will never be outdone in rock history, ever, and he’s still a major force 54 years later. We should kiss the ring of Dylan before we enter any recording studio and before we sit down to write. He should be on the dollar bill and at least one street in every town should bear his name. Fuck all these kleptocratic two bit politicians with their sorry ass names on everything. Name some bridges after the god damn poets. The Bob Dylan Bridge! Thats right, he’ll take ya there!

Motörhead: Ace of Spades

I know, Ace of Spades, Ace of Spades, always Ace of Spades, but come on man Ace of Spades is the shit! Hands down best Lemmy ever and that’s saying a lot. That dude had not one ounce of compromise in his blood ever. Lived as if he was the King of his Kingdom. That’s my teacher right there. Read his autobiography and start living your life…and he was the nicest guy in the world.

The Sex Pistols: Never Mind the Bullocks

If you know anyone who’s approaching adulthood give them Johnny Rotten’s Autobiography, ‘Anger is an Energy’ Because that’s the bible on how to live one’s life, and this is a great soundtrack to go along with it.

Bowie: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust

How do you pick just one Bowie album? That’s cruel and unusual punishment. Albums like this are the reason new rock is in the doldrums…can any new band come close to this? They’d be zillionaires in a year to boot!

Leonard Cohen: The Essential

Because if I could write an entire album’s worth of lyrics that equaled the power of one of his lines I’d be ok with that. If you plan on writing lyrics you need to listen to this and then be humble for the rest of your sorry ass shitty lyric writing life. Be humble and pray to the almighty Leonard. I saw him in concert, he was 82 and he made the entire audience weep for 3 hours straight, well, there was an intermission…..I had to pick my wife up off the floor and carry her home, we were unable to speak for days. Leonard shut us up, cleared our minds and made us realize heaven.

The Groundhogs: Split

Because Cherry Red is one of the top ten greatest rock songs ever written…. just play it on repeat and you’ll get yourself straight again.

Jeff Beck: Blow by Blow

My favorite guitar work of all the classics rock gods. If you’re in a mellow mood and want your mind blown by the tastiest, most consistent guitar playing of the era this is it.
